Initial Idea

The Story:

We decided to base our film opening around a middle aged man with OCD, who is trapped in the routine of his life until a new neighbour moves in next door, a younger woman insistent on becoming his friend. A friendship develops between the two and, when she discovers that the man has been secretly writing stories to help himself cope with his struggles, she dedicates herself to his writing inspiring him to send off manuscripts and eventually leading to the publication of his novel.  We decided to work into this story a couple of disruptions (a rejection letter from a publisher sending the man slightly off track and the woman moving away, with her boyfriend, leading to a complete collapse of the man's progress which is resolved by an encouraging phonemail from the woman) in order to follow Todorov's ideas for narrative theory.

Planning the Trailer:

Once we understood what we wanted our trailer's plot to be we decided to start planning for our story board.  We created a list of shots that we wanted to include which provided the rough order of our trailer and allowed us to think about what we wanted our trailer to be like stylistically and discuss the way in which we wanted to frame different shots and scenes.

What Happened:

As we began drawing our storyboard for this idea, we started discussing the specifics of how we were going to film the video we realised that fitting together the three of ours' schedules around that of our prospective actor was going to be very difficult and therefore we had to change our idea to incorporate younger cast members.
